The Jackson County Youth Center has an opening for a part-time cook to prepare and serve meals to residents of the Youth Center.
This is a part-time position with a minimum of 29 hours per week, Mon, Tues, Wed 12 pm to 6 pm; Thu 1 pm to 6 pm; Sun 10:30 am to -4:30 pm.

com* *RESPONSIBILITIES: *Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director, will prepare and serve meals to residents of the Youth Center: Reviews menu plans, plans cooking schedules, and prepares a variety of meals and special dietary items.
Notifies supervisor of needed food quantities sufficient to meet menu plans.
Ensures food safety practices are followed including proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and proper food storage.
Some of the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to: 1.
Performs food preparation activities such as washing and paring vegetables and fruits, prepping other food, and mixing ingredients.
2.
Prepares and cooks main course meats, vegetables, and casseroles, and records cooking temperatures.
Bakes cookies, brownies, cakes, and other snacks and desserts.
Prepares salads and sandwiches, and serves fruit and other items according to menu plan.
3.
Oversees and participates in the portioning of food on serving trays for distribution.
4.
Maintains records on residents with special dietary needs and ensures that meals are prepared in accordance with medical recommendations.
5.
Maintains daily and monthly meal production records, and records amount of food consumed and wasted.
6.
Closes kitchen at end of day, includes ensuring proper cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen and all equipment, ensuring ovens and all equipment is turned off, accounting for utensils, and locking up.
7.
Provides catering services for special events and activities.
*QUALIFICATIONS:Education:* High school graduation or its equivalent.
Prefer some advanced coursework in food service management, nutrition and related areas.
Experience: One year experience in institutional cooking, providing experience with food preparation and service, nutritional requirements and sanitation requirements.
Other Requirements: Must be ServSafe certified or ability to become ServSafe certified.
*COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:* This is a non-exempt bargaining unit position with AFSCME Pay Grade B, offering excellent benefits, including investment plan options, PTO accrual and paid holidays upon hire! All other benefits including use of accrued PTO and insurance (medical/prescription/dental/vision insurance) effective following 90 calendar days of employment and successfully passing the probationary period.
