4948/Hr - Status: Accepting Applications JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY Responsible for overall direction of a Center; perform related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Director of the Department on Aging.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Will supervise the work of those assigned to assist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which an employee may be expected to perform).
Welcomes and gets to know each older adult as an individual.
Assess the needs of individuals coming to the Center and takes appropriate action to help with information and referral.
Receive referral for older adults in the area and make personal contact to assess the situation and help with solutions.
Plan program activities for the Center with input from center participants which should include 5 different special activities per month.
Assist in determining eligibility for homebound meals.
Recruits volunteers as needed for the Center and for the Home Delivered Meal program.
Maintain records of attendance, older adult client registration, monthly reports, and banking accounts.
Oversee and work with the local Advisory Board.
Attend monthly center directors meetings and training sessions as directed.
Produce a monthly calendar with activities and other relevant information.
Advocate on behalf of older adults in the community.
Work with center participants to plan and coordinate fund raising projects.
Coordinate special evening events, volunteer recognition, one day trips, an open house and other community group projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Director.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and/or QUALIFICATIONS: An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training and experience.
Graduation from high school plus extra education related to the gerontology field.
At least two (2) year of relevant experience.
Must be interested in the welfare of elderly people and believe in the philosophy of the Lenawee County Department on Aging.
Capable of meeting new people and speaking in public.
General knowledge of local people and issues.
Ability to organize/manage time and to work with groups of people as well as individuals.
Oversee a variety of needs from clients and maintain a respectful atmosphere for all participants and staff.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs and the Internet.
Knowledge of social games, crafts, recreational activities and social welfare agencies.
Physical Requirements Ability to push/pull an average of 150 pounds for a distance of 100 feet necessary for moving carts of materials.
Maintain a work pace of steady to fast.
ability to see and hear information from co-workers and equipment for safety.
Ability to reach, bend or squat several times an hour.
Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to carry 10 pounds a distance of 50 feet several times a day.
Have the ability to perform CPR and basic emergency procedures.
