JOB
This is apprentice level work involving the maintenance and construction of Streets and performs related work as required.
Operates one or more types of automotive equipment and performs a variety of manual tasks: does related work as required.
Work involves acquiring knowledge and skill in various activities of the asphalt system.
Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of several types of vehicles and equipment.
The position requires possession of a CDL either upon hire or within 6 months of employment.
Ability to promote to a higher class for new employees is required within three years of hire.
Periodically, work will be inspected by a Supervisor for quality and efficiency.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Works with Public Services staff to learn Public Works operation and maintenance; reads maps and makes emergency system shutdowns; operates trucks in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel and supplies; operates trucks in carrying tools, equipment, parts, and materials/supplies to and from a job site; operation of light to heavy duty equipment such as Rollers, pavers, backhoes, loaders safely and efficiently; performs minor repairs on vehicle equipment; repairs streets and roads, tar heaters, and cement mixers; operates road compactor and various other pieces of equipment; performs maintenance on streets, sidewalks, traffic signs, structures, manual labor operations; performs minor equipment repairs; uses hand held computers, prepares simple work reports; places barricades and traffic delineators; monitors painting and marking of streets, walks and signs; performs snow removal and street sweeping operations; and other duties as outlined in the Municipal Worker Asphalt program.
